Defend Your Gut

As you may know, we have friendly bacteria, fungus and parasites living in our gut. They are known as your Intestinal Flora. They are key in protecting you against nasty bacteria and viruses. Your gut friends are responsible for helping the full absorption of vitamin Bs, which help you feel energetic. Why you say? Vitamin Bs work in most digestive reactions to bring the energy and nutrients in food into your blood stream for fast delivery! Back to your Intestinal flora, sadly, they are very sensible to acidic PH, stress, heat, medicine, additives, food colors and artificial ingredients. In order to help them keep alive in your gut, you need to provide a good environment for their survival. If you work towards keeping these living organisms alive within you, they will survive and multiply. The more the merrier and the happier and healthier you will be!

What improves the PH in your gut? Eating fruits and vegetables helps a lot. These two groups are essential in providing good food to your gut friends. Fruits and vegetables contain enzymes and fiber that allow for friendly biomass’ gut survival. They also diminish the acid environment of your digestive tract. Cutting down on the elements that kill gut friendly bacteria will improve your health status dramatically. Try to spend more time shopping for fresh food that you could prepare at home. Shopping for dry packed convenient food most of the time will only bring you more work and expense later, taking care of your ill health later on. Invest in food that will improve your energy, such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Choose plant proteins such as quinoa, amaranth, barley, oats, beans, lentils, and healthy omega 3s oils in seeds, nuts, olives, avocado and fish. Your plate should always have green in the spectrum of colors. Ideally, you should have 80% of plant origin food in each meal and snack.

Include probiotics in your diet. Buy bioactive yogurt, kefir, miso, kimchi and probiotics supplements to give you a much needed boost. Drink filtered water to help with a basic PH in your gut so these living probiotics could survive. Add mineral water too if you can!

Making an effort to STOP shopping for cookies, supermarket bakery, salty bagged snacks, cold cuts, sweets and chocolate will pay you with good health, happiness and much energy in the near future. Be wise, you now know better!
